Alice Maynard
What makes me tick?
My name is Alice Maynard and I’m a disabled woman. As someone who uses a wheelchair and relies on personal assistance, I am passionate about inclusion. I’ll work anywhere, but my main love is for things that underpin our quality of life, like joined-up transport links, housing, social support, employment and great customer service for everyone.
I’m fascinated by the way systems work, from teams to organisations to society; how behaviours create culture and culture can be changed by changing behaviours – the ripple effect of dropping a stone into a pool.
I believe that what we do as individuals impacts on other people. We can learn to act inclusively in a way that creates a snowball effect across all our interactions, changing ourselves, our teams, our organisations, society and the whole system.
I feel privileged to work as a non-executive director in the public and charitable sectors, alongside my coaching work. I am currently non-executive director (NED) at the Financial Conduct Authority and, until recently, HMRC. I chair the People Committee – a role I love, because people are the lifeblood of an organisation. I also sit on the Government Commercial Office Remuneration Committee. I have been Board Chair for several Charities, overseeing improvements in governance, strategic planning and operational delivery. So I've been where you are, in that seat around the Board table, and I know it’s never that simple. Let me help.
